It is worth noting that Regional Supply has a big scrap bin with lots of good plastic, wood, and metal on sale in the front of their building for dirt cheap (sometimes they even give it away for free). It comes in all shapes and sizes, and changes from day to day, but is a good place for inexpensive materials in my experience.

NPS industrial store often has good metal/plastic scrap, and the electrical supplies isle occasionally contains some gems.

ACE Hardware on 4th south(& probably other locations) has a very good selection of nuts & bolts, although prices are high, it's handy if you just need 1 or 2 of a particular bolt.
