gmc2000 introducing
Hi all,
A short introduction, i'm gmc and I'm from The Netherlands, Europe (The Hague to be a bit more precise). I am the founder of revspace, the hackerspace in my city. Recently I started Signal, the hackerspaces.org radio stream, together with fish_ and astera. For the rest I'm into pinball, computers, security, and such subjects. I've taken up the idea to cruise around the US, starting in Seattle, then down to LA, Las Vegas, up a bit and to the east to New York and then Miami. Mode of transport: car. The goal is to visit as many hackerspaces as possible on the way. The Transistor seems to be one of the few hackerspaces in between Vegas and and the more crowded general area of Iowa/Wisconsin. I hope I'll be welcome at your space, and perhaps someone can suggest a place where i could sleep for a day or two (i'm on a shoestring budget though). |

Welcome to the forums!
You are always welcome @ tT during the public nights. Not sure on where you can crash for a couple days. You can always check craigslist housing. Maybe hit up some of the cheaper roommate situations and ask if you could pay to crash there for a couple nights. Alternately you could take out an ad. I am sure you could find something. RE: gmc2000 introducing
Hi gmc,
That sounds like an amazing trip you would like to take. Though we don't have much space, my wife and I would be happy to let you stay with us for a while. We live in Provo, closer to the transistor than many of the other members. One of my best friends in college was from The Netherlands. He loved southern utah. It is quite a bit different from what he was used to back home. You may want to check it out on your way through, especially if you are coming up from the south anyway. His favourite place was the area around Moab: Canyonlands and Arches. John Fenley |

Hi Devon, John,
(08-16-2010 11:19 PM)Pontifier Wrote: Hi gmc, Sorry for not responding to this earlier. I had checked the 'notify me by email' box, but never got any email about your responses! Anyway, the important bit is: i'm moving closer to Salt Lake City / Provo. Currently in LA, where we stay at 23b. Will visit nullspce tonight, and crashspace tomorrow (hopefully). After that, we're going into Nevada for a visit to Las Vegas. The current plan is to arrive in your general area the 5th of november, and leave again the 7th. John, I'd like to take you up on your offer. I must add that we'll be two: i'm travelling with Kyle, a friend from 2600 whom I met in The Netherlands. If space is a problem, we have a tent in the trunk so a bit of backyard where we can pitch that would suffice. As a token of grattitude, we're happy to cook you dinner. We have been doing this since the beginning of the trip, trying to find fresh produce and cook up something nice. So far, we have succeeded if the response from our hosts so far is anything to go by. Hope to hear from you. Feel free to send me an email on gmc@hackerspaces.org, or text/call me on my temporary cell phone no: +1 206 458 9586. I see saturday the 6th is arduino night, so we'll be visiting the space then! Gr, Koen (gmc) |

RE: gmc2000 introducing
Hi all,
We've found lodgings in Salt Lake City, and will head down to the transistor in the evening. Hope to talk with many of you, maybe even record an interview about the hackerspace challenge for Signal, the hackerspace radio. See you all tomorrow, Koen (gmc) |

RE: gmc2000 introducing
Hey Guys,
Thanks for the awesome evening, shirts and stickers ![]() The Transistor is definitely right there in the top of the nicest hackerspaces we've seen so far. For details on the rest of the trip, there's some media: http://wordpress.metro.cx/ - my blog http://signal.hackerspaces.org/ - the hackerspace radio site, click to the archive for the first installment of 'gmc does america' http://twitter.com/gmchar - my twitter account, mostly futile observations and pointless updates http://sodapopfilm.com/ - kyle's photography https://foswiki.sonologic.nl/Images/GmcDoesAmerica - my own drive-by snapshotting http://revspace.nl/ - site about my own hackerspace in the hague I think that is about it. Oh, if you ever want to contact me, try gmc hackerspaces org (email), whereas Kyle is at kyle 2600 com (well, I assume you know where to put the @ and the . ![]() Thanks again, I really enjoyed our visit, you're an inspiring bunch, and i am going to take that inspiration back home to improve my own space. |

RE: gmc2000 introducing
Hey, thanks for all the links. I really enjoyed having you two come down to the space and talk about your adventures in the other hackerspaces. It was very cool to hear about what the rest of the country is doing. Makes me want to go on a road trip of my own. Good luck on the rest of your journey.
